Finally! I have the phone line in my room connected, kudos to the uber cool Telstra guy for helping me out and finding my lost copper pair 
After a bit of a shaky start, we managed to trace the entire lot to the garage, seems lift or alarm installers fucked the phone wiring entirely, but oh well. Installed now - applied for ADSL, ready to roll.
Also, the electrical thunder storms tonight were quite spectacular.
